There are many different gamemodes of Minecraft, including Survival, Creative, Adventure, and Spectator (only in versions higher than 1.8). This page tells you about Spectator mode.
Spectator mode is a special gamemode only in the version 1.8. It is similar to creative mode, but in this mode you cannot place or break blocks, and you also cannot interact with them. You can, however, interact with mobs. If you hit a mob, the mob's vision will be on your screen, sometimes changed depending on the mob. A creeper turns your vision green, a spider makes multiple images, and an enderman makes the colors inverted.
Before, when I said that a player in spectator mode cannot interact with blocks? I meant it. The player can fly straight through any block, including bedrock.
This gamemode is pretty good, but not always helpful. Use at your own risk.
