There are many different gamemodes of Minecraft, including Survival, Creative, Adventure, and Spectator (only in versions higher than 1.8). This page tells you about Creative mode.
Creative mode is a mode in which the player has no real 'health', but cannot die except in the void. A player has infinite blocks and items in this mode, and can fly. Every single item and block that exists in the game is in the creative inventory. Monsters are not attracted to the player in this mode, unless you aggravate them.
